First, my name is Elizabeth Jean. I was named after my paternal grandmother whose name was Emma Elizabeth. I never knew her as she died from a brain tumor when my dad was only 14 years old. Jean was my Mom's best friend's name.

Next, is our daughter. From the time I found out I was pregnant, I knew if I had a little girl I would name her Chasalyn Renee and I did . . . for 3 days. I had a c-section with her and had to stay in the hospital 5 days. During the evening of day 3, my doctor came in and asked what we had named our baby girl and I proudly said Chasalyn . . . but . . . he thought I said Jacqueline, which my husband liked better and wanted to be her name despite the fact that everyone in the family thought her name was Chasalyn. Wanting to please him, I gave in and we changed it to Jacqueline. He wanted to spell it Jaclyn but being a tiny bit resentful I said no and spelled it Jacqueline. He argued that she would be in the 6th grade before she learned how to spell or write it. Luckily, we had not filled out the paperwork for the birth certificate yet, that was back in 1979. Renee is just a name that I liked and thought sounded good with Chasalyn. But it sounded good with Jacqueline too.

Our son. During the time I was pregnant we were told that we were having a girl . . . no sonogram or ultrasound. We were also told that due to complications brought on by my pregnancy that it would not be safe for me to have any more children. We were disappointed about not having any more, especially a son, but we made the decision that I would have a tubal ligation during my c-section when I delivered our second daughter. Jacqueline was 3 years old at the time and happy to be having a little sister, although she wanted a little brother. Due the first week of September, I was more than ready in August for our new baby to be born. The nursery was ready, little pink clothes ready and name was picked . . . Chasalyn Lanee. On August 20th, a few minutes after noon, our second baby was born. Imagine everyone's surprise when it was a boy. . . they said my husband was jumping up and down. I was shocked but very happy. Expecting a girl, we had not discusssed any boy names and we had no clothes for a boy. Nothing. His nursery was pink. We bounced back quickly and decided to name our new son, Kenneth Lee Jr, after his dad . . . , but he goes by Lee, which is my husband's family name. It also didn't take us long to acquire the boy clothes and items that we needed.Lee

Now, that's how my kids got their names. What's the story behind your or your kid's names?
Have a wonderful weekend.

What a wonderful post! Your kids were just adorable and are your son is so handsome and your daughter is so pretty! You are very blessed. We named our daughter, Mary Ellen for Rich's mom and my mom. They are both godly women and we pray Mary follows in their footsteps:)
