Remodeling

This weekend was beautiful, still a little too hot and dry but nice! All last week I worked at packing away most of the items in my livingroom and kitchen. We are about to do some remodeling which includes tearing out both floors. The living room floor will actually be torn out all the way to the ground. . . . thank goodness my husband does carpentry work. The plywood under our pine plank floors is going to have to be replaced which means we are also having to replace the flooring.  I will also be getting new flooring in the kitchen and diningroom. After having white tile and grout for years (in the kitchen!!!),  hubby has finally agreed to replace it. . . yippppee. We will also be updating our kitchen by making some changes to the layout of our cabinets and replacing our old appliances.  We have been talking about maybe selling our place in a few years and building a smaller house with a small yard. . . . something with less upkeep.  While I dread all the work, I am excited to get started.. I intend to make before and after pictures and will post them as we move along with the remodeling. Thanks for stopping by and I hope all of you have a wonderful week.

32nd Anniversary

This picture was made during Christmas in 1977. Kenneth had proposed earlier in the evening and I had of course accepted. You can't see it very well but I am showing off my engagement ring. We were married 9 months later on September 15, 1978. Today we are celebrating 32 years of marriage. To celebrate I fixed one of his favorite meals: smoked ribs, slaw, baked beans, corn on cob, cheddar potatoes and banana pudding. I also smoked a pork shoulder while doing the ribs so he could have barbeque sandwiches for his lunch tomorrow. I precooked the meat until it was almost done in the oven  this morning and when I got home from Skylar's this afternoon I put it in the smoker to finish cooking.  Kenneth came in, got his shower and started getting dressed. He had planned on taking me out to dinner but after assuring him that I really didn't want to go out he changed into some comfortable clothes and we had a nice dinner alone.  I knew he was tired after working all day. We spent the evening just relaxing and watching some of our favorite shows we had previously recorded on the DVR. These day, it doesn't take much to make us happy . . . just being together is enough.

Update on Skylar: He came home Saturday morning but is still not feeling well. His docs thought he would probably do better and be more comfortable at home. He has the MRSA staph infection which is hard to get rid of. We are really having to be careful to remember to wear gloves when caring for him. Please say a little prayer for him.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hello

Wow, it has been a long time since I have really posted anything. I had intended to delete this blog and keep my other one but once I started moving things around, I soon discovered it was going to take more time than I had to spare. So I have decided to keep this one and probably delete the other one. Alot has been going on around here. First, Skylar is in the hospital for the second time in a month. A few weeks ago he became very sick and was hospitalized for staph and E-coli infections. He also has numerous kidney and bladder stones. After 5 days he came home with an IV and his mom and I administered his antibiotics for 10 days. After the IV was removed, he started taking oral antibiotics but he never got to feeling any better. He was sick all last week but refused to go to the doctor or hospital. He had tickets Friday night to see Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert in concert and was determined to go despite running a fever and feeling bad. He made it through most of the concert but had to be rushed to the hospital before it was over. He has some serious infections and pneumonia. All visitors have to wear masks and gloves. To make matters worse, he has finally decided to start looking towards his future as a quadriplegic and get back to his schoolwork. He started classes 2 weeks ago and now he risks falling behind because of his illness. I pray he is well very soon and does not get so far behind in his classes that he can't catch up. Secondly, I have also been having a few health issues but I'll wait and discuss those in another post. I have also joined facebook and would love to hear from any of you who have one also. You can get in touch with me through e-mail and I will give you my face book name (e1ije@aol.com). Hopefully, I will be able to post more often now that things are starting to slow down some. Thanks for stopping by.
