My Week

Maya and Rosco having fun together.

We had a nice weekend. Saturday my husband and I and both our children went over to Skylar's to learn how to use his new standing frame. Afterwards, we visited the cemetery where my dad is buried and put flowers on his grave. On Sunday, both children (Jacqueline & Lee) visited with us to spend time with their dad for Father's Day. We were finally able to meet Shawn, Jacqueline's new friend. I haven't mentioned it before but our daughter divorced her husband last September. She actually filed for it the day before our son's wedding.  Jacqueline had to catch a flight out at 3:00 p.m. Sunday to Illinois for work so we've had Maya all week. (She arrived safely back home this evening.) Monday I went over to Skylar's as usual and came back home to spend some time with Maya. Later, when my husband came home from work,  I went out side to do some yard work while he stayed inside with Maya . . . I wish I would have stayed inside as well. After working outside 2-3 hours, some friends of ours stopped by to visit and I sent them inside and told them I would be in as soon as I turned the water off . To turn it off, I had to open the door to the green house and lower the lever on the hydrant, which I did. While doing so, I felt something against my left ankle. I looked down and saw a snake coiling up with its head back like it was going to bite. Not looking to see what was in front of me I dove forward. In front of me was a large clay pot and two smaller pots I had set out of the greenhouse to pot some flowers in. My right foot connected with the large pot and I landed on top of the other two. I was on the ground but jumped up quickly and ran thinking about the snake. OH, my big toe hurt. After I was sure that I had put enough distance between me and the snake, I checked my left ankle. I honestly thought I had been bitten but could find no marks. However, my big toe on my right foot hurt so bad that I could have cried like a baby . . . but not in front of our company. After a miserable night, I went to the clinic the next day, after I finished up at Skylar's, and got it x-rayed. It is broken and I am going to lose my toe nail. Painful!!!! Everyone has asked what kind of snake it was or what did it look like??? I really didn't have time to look at it very good . . . all I know is that it was a SNAKE.  Maya and I have spent alot of time on the couch with my foot elevated. Today I did get out and work in the garden a few hours, clean the house, and cook supper.  I am having trouble finding shoes that I can wear. I have lots of sandals but most of them go between the big toe and the one beside it.  My big toe is taped to the one beside it,  so that won't work. Oh well, it could have been worse. . . I could have a snake bite on the left foot and a broken toe on the right. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a nice weekend.

Snake stories on people's blogs are really freakin' me out! Had I looked down and saw one around my ankle...you'd be reading my obituary in the Decatur Daily! I'm not scared of many things, but snakes are #1 on that list!

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I came to your blog earlier this week to look at the wedding pictures ('Bama Girl is getting hitched in about 4 years and we just had a pond dug, so...) Hope you have a better week...watch where you walk!

thank-you for stopping by Elizabeth. I have so much fun looking at all your pretty photos. Just love all the flowers. And the doggie pics too!
I am sooooo glad you didn't get a snake bite. YIKES! We have very very few snakes in our little corner of the world. South of us a few hours though they have rattlers. It is too cold for them here and probably too wet too.
So sad your daughter ended up getting divorced. I really do pray she finds the special one for her soon.
Get that toe better quick. I will say a special toe prayer for you ~~Do you have to elevate it much now? God bless Roxanne

Scary! Glad you weren't bitten, but the toe, ugh. Prayers for fast healing.

Hi dear! So sorry to hear about your broken toe. I would have done the same thing... swan dive for safety. I broke two toes last month and they are barely starting to heal. I made friends with a pair of slip on Crocs and I am still wearing them!

Take care!
