To announce and explain separation from the Kingdom of Great Britain
The United States Declaration of Independence is a statement adopted by the
Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies then at war with Great Britain were now independent states, and thus no longer a part of the British Empire. Written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration is a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare Independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The birthday of the United States of America—Independence Day—is celebrated on July 4, the day the wording of the Declaration was approved by Congress.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July. We do not have any plans this weekend except to do some work around our place. Our son's wedding is in September and it will be here before we know it and we have a lot of yard work to do before then. I also started painting my kitchen and dining room last night and I need to get that finished. My plan is to get up early and work outside until it gets hot (suppose to be 94 degrees) and then come inside and paint. Later, in the evening after it cools off I will go back outside and work. After it gets dark we will build a fire in our outdoor fireplace and roast hotdogs or some marshmallows, pull up a chair and watch the fireworks that all our neighbors will shoot (we live in the rural part of the county and shooting fireworks is allowed). That's about it for my Fourth of July plans. Of course, they are subject to change if we get a better offer......
