"Show & Tell Friday"- Master Bedroom

This week for "Show & Tell Friday" hosted by Kelli at http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/2009/02/fairy-calendarshow-and-tell-friday.html I would like to show you our master bedroom. Our master bedroom is a new addition to our home. It was added in 2001 and is a large room and we needed it for our furniture. Our bedroom suit is nothing fancy but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is very special to me because it was made by my husband in 1982. During the early years of our marriage we struggled to make ends meet and did not have money for new furniture. I had found a picture of a bed that I liked in a magazine and tore it out and saved it. I showed it to my husband one day and he said he thought he might be able to build something very similar. Using only a few tools that he had, he built this furniture from pine lumber. For the tops of the furniture he used some hardwood flooring pieces left over from some flooring jobs he had helped his dad do. I did the sanding, staining and polyurethane. Throughout the years we could have replaced it and bought something more up to date and fancier but I would never think of getting rid of this one. It means more to me than anything I could ever buy. So much so that we built us a bedroom to put it in. You may click on the pictures to get a larger view.

View from the hall going into our master bedroom.

I wanted to show the beam that the light is hanging from. My husband built this beam and finished it using left over pieces from our hardwood floor. The headboard of the bed and the tops on all the furniture pieces (dresser, nightstands, chest) are also made from hardwood flooring.

This is a view of the right side of the room.

A view of the left side of the room. The ottoman is usually in my livingroom and matches the furniture in there. Last week while cleaning I changed some things around and I really don't like it in here, especially after seeing these photos. I will probably move it back tomorow.
More of the view from the left side of the room. My husband built the entertainment center into the wall. Inside is our television, DVD/VCR, Stereo and books.

The small side doors on the entertainment center hide our speakers.

A view of the entry, the entertainment center opened and one of my doll cabinets.
Thank you for stopping by and please go by and visit Kelli to see what she and others are also showing.

Your hubby did an awesome job...on everything. And yes, it is more valuable and special than anything you might think of replacing it with. It's history is wonderful. You might think of writing a note (the history)to attach somewhere hidden underneath for future discoveries.
Thanks for sharing, Candy

There is nothing -- nothing! -- as precious and valuable as something made for us by someone we love. That bedroom furniture is priceless. AND beautiful.

Lovely post, thanks.

Those pieces are beautiful! We've made a few pieces of furniture for our home, but they are not nearly as nice. Homemade furniture looks so much better because it's made for the space. It looks as if it really belongs. Your oriental rugs really set off the furniture nicely.

Have a lovely Valentine's Day!
