Today is Kelli's "Show & Tell Friday" at There is no place like home. This week I am showing some pieces of art that I have collected over the years.

I was able to get a really good deal on this 24"x30"oval print because it had a damaged frame. I brought it home and used some wood putty to fill in a crack at the bottom of the frame. After sanding the area well, I applied stain that I mixed, using several different shades together. The stain was a close match but I could still see a slight variation so I used an antiquing glaze over the entire frame. I was happy with the final results and it is hanging in my guest bedroom.

I bought this frame without any artwork. It was also damaged and I also got it at a good price. It was actually missing part of a corner and there was some damage along the side. I fixed it by making a mold out of modeling clay and filling it with plaster of paris to make a replacement for the damaged sections. Afterwards, I glued the missing sections in place, painted the entire frame gold, highlighted it using gold leaf, and went over it with a coat of antiquing glaze. The 16"x 20" print that is in it came in another frame that I used for a portrait of my daughter on her wedding day. This print is hanging in the hall going to the master bedroom.

My husband and I sort of inherited this 16"x 20" piece. I actually told the story of how it became ours on my Tuesday's post this week. It was originally purchased at a yard sale and has been passed down 4 times in our family. I also refinished this frame to get this result (paint, gold leaf, and you guessed it, antiquing glaze). It has been hanging in our den for the past 21 years.

I had seen this print several times in some of my decorating books and loved it. Several years ago I was in an antique store and came across this 11"x14" copy of it and had to have it. I actually got it for $14.95. It was in a wooden frame that I did not like so I replaced it with the one it is in now. It now hangs in my living room.

This is the frame that the lady in the red dress at the piano (pictured above) came in when I bought it. However, it did not look like this. Someone had painted it white and did a very sloppy job. I was able to get this frame and the print at a very reasonable price because the white paint job did not enhance the appearance of either of them. I brought it home and sanded the rough spots, painted it gold, gold leafed it, and used my antiquing glaze on it. I put the lady in the red dress back in and used it for several years before I replaced it with this 16"x20" portrait of my daughter on her wedding day.
Please visit Kelli and see what she and other's are also showing.

Beautiful frames and paintings! I hate to see people throw away those lovely old frames just because they have a little damage that can be repaired! You did a great job on all of them!

First... they are all very pretty. But I love that fourth one!
You put so much labor into each of those frames, I also have a beautiful frame with a missing corner, I never though about making a mold out of modeling clay.
You are truly an inspiration.

Good job with the repairs of your frames. I would not have the courage to try making a plaster replacement for a missing corner. I think you must be very talented. - Sharon -
